On the seventh day, Bethany Chieffallo, LMA Public Relations & Communications SIG Co-Chair, shares some of the positive things that came out of a challenging year, demonstrating remarkable resilience and optimism. Bethany also discusses how the past year shaped social media and communications efforts at her firm.

What was on your bright side of 2020, both personally and professionally? 

Personally, 2020’s challenges have given me new appreciation and awareness. The trivial things are less of a focus and I am all the more grateful for the important things — relationships with family and friends, health, experiences and technology that enables us to remain connected despite physical distance. 

Additionally, my husband and I had an opportunity to escape for a tropical vacation in January 2020 and revisited our engagement spot. I miss traveling! 

Professionally, in February 2020, I took a new legal marketing role in-house that has been enriching, challenging and rewarding. I welcome new opportunities with open arms! Particularly those that allow for new development, creativity, and growth.

How did the pandemic change how you, your attorneys and/or your firm approached social media? 

We have always taken the approach of transparency, though the pandemic propelled us to be more thoughtful and compassionate about posts and messaging. In the midst of trouble and division, how can we use social media — such a powerful medium — for unity, optimism, and the greater good?

Bethany Chieffallo thrives on helping attorneys grow their practices and establish greater credibility through a thoughtful range of PR, business development and marketing initiatives. With six years of in-house legal marketing experience and nearly five years of agency legal marketing experience, Chieffallo works to strategically position her attorney clients as thought leaders before key audiences and expand on traditional marketing efforts to creatively exceed goals. In her current role as marketing director at GKG Law, she manages media relations, internal communications, business development efforts, events, rankings and more. Chieffallo earned her B.S., summa cum laude, in PR from Kent State University. She is an active member of the Legal Marketing Association (LMA), currently serving as co-chair of LMA's Public Relations & Communications Shared Interest Group.
